Prayer skill guide

This article has a guide here.

Prayer

Prayer is a powerful combat skill that can be used to apply temporary boosts to strength, ranged, magic and defence. It can also be used to increase health regeneration. Higher prayer level unlocks stronger prayers and increases the maximum prayer points. The prayer cape increases the percentage that prayer points restore by 25%.

Training[]

Prayer is trained by burying bones or by scattering demonic ashes. Each buried bone and scattered ash gives prayer experience. Burning the remains on a fire gives increases the experience. Remains can also be imbued to give double the experience when buried by using them on a praying altar. Imbued bones and ashes can be burned as well to stack the two experience bonuses. A good place to imbue remains as in Varrock square, in the red tent.

Another mean to increase the experience is to burn the bones and ashes at the incinerator. It requires logs and remains. The logs are first turned into ashes with the incinerator. The resulting ashes are then burned together with the remains for prayer experience. The log ashes have a higher experience multiplier than the logs themselves. The ashes are tradeable meaning that the firemaking level required to make the ashes can be avoided. The drawback with the incinerator is that it is a little travel away from the nearest bank.

Prayer points[]

Prayer points are what power the prayers and are needed in order to use prayers. They are consumed when prayers are active. Prayers drain prayer points at different rates, which is measured in n/second. The maximum number of prayer points is increased by one for each prayer level. At level one prayer, the number of prayer points is 52. To give a few references points, at level 50 the number of prayer points is 102. At level 99 it is 151 and at level 120, the number is 172.

Prayer points slowly regenerate over time. The regeneration rate is approximately one point every 25 seconds. Prayer points can be fully restored at praying altars which can be used once every ten minutes. The altars are found in most churches and quite a few other locations as well. There are also prayer potions that restore a portion of prayer points.

Some wearables can affect the number and draining of prayer points. An item with prayer buffer increases the maximum number of prayer points. An item with prayer point reduction slows down the drain rate of prayer points.

Prayers[]

Prayers are temporary boosts that consume prayer points. To activate a prayer, open inventory and click the star icon. A menu with all the unlocked prayers will appears. Clicking the prayers in this menu activates them. Clicking an active prayer deactivates it. Currently the only way to change prayer stance in combat or on the run is through a prayer scepter, a late game item created from rare components in the holy forge.

Prayer sceptres[]

Prayer sceptres are items used to rapidly activate and deactivate prayers. They require high enough prayer level to be used. Silver and gold sceptres are made at the holy forge. Royal sceptre is a reward from treasure trails.

God books[]

God books are offhand items that require level 50 prayer and level 50 in one other skill which they are related to. Most of them offer significant boosts to the skill they are associated with. They are made by purchasing a damaged book from Jossik at the Lighthouse and adding four god pages of the book's god to the book. The pages range from 1 to 4 and are obtained as rewards from treasure trails. The pages are tradeable and so can be bought from other players or sold at the Grand Exchange.

Tips[]

  • Most commonly used altars are located in Varrock, Lumbridge, Edgeville monastery.
  • While exact times are being tested as for now, Varrock alter seems closest to a bank for the purpose of imbuing banked bones.
  • There is also an altar in deeper rooms of Taverley Dungeon, which you can use to imbue bones right after a task.
