Walkthrough[]
Starting the quest[]
Begin the quest by speaking to Harbit in the Canifis pub. (482 / 64 / -581)
Ask him if he's heard any rumors lately and he will reveal the whole town has been talking about strange noises and screams coming from the new castle on the shore.
He suggests you speak to Achtryn, the local Slayer Master to find out more information.
Talk to Achtryn[]
Warning: This quest has two ways to complete it depending on the dialogue options you choose while speaking to Achtryn.
Achtryn is located in a building straight across town from the pub (479 / 64 / -672).
Upon speaking to him, he will suggest that you look weak. Replying with "What? YOU look weak." will result in Achtryn damaging you for 50% of your health. Instead, respond with the top dialogue option "Harbit says you may know something about what's going on with the new castle".
He will not tell you what he knows, and will give you two options: Investigating yourself, or, prove your worth.
The recommended option is to Investigate yourself, as proving your worth requires a lot more effort.
Option 1: Investigating yourself (recommended)[]
Select the top dialogue option "I guess i'll go investigate, thanks for being so helpful!".
Follow the path northeast out of Canifis, and continue up the hill towards Fenkenstrain's Castle (654 / 64 / -799). Walk up the stairs and right click on the front door, you will get a prompt saying "The door is locked. Maybe I should try a window?".
There is a window located right around the side of the front entrance, jump up to it and right click on it. Place your ear against the window by clicking the dialogue prompt, "You hear faint screams, followed by the distinct sounds of metal striking bone.".
It suggests you report your findings to the Mausoleum priest (520 / 64 / -891).
Option 2: Proving your worth (not recommended)[]
Recommended[]
- Combat equipment
Select the bottom dialogue option "Prove my worth? Easy!"
Achtryn will tell you to bring him two heads of the strongest Slayer monster that you can kill. Find the most recently unlocked Slayer mob you can kill and slay them until you receive two heads. It is possible to not get a head and you will receive the prompt "You struck too hard and ruined the trophy, Achtryn won't respect this kill."
Return to Achtryn with the heads, he will be impressed and suggest "the mausoleum priest knows something, bring the heads to him to persuade him to talk."
Head north to the priest located at the Mausoleum across the dilapidated bridge (520 / 64 / -891).
Speak to the priest, he will insist you should not add anything to the incinerator. Go down the stairs and locate the incinerator, use the heads on the block infront of the fire, and go back to the priest.
He will complain of the smell that the burning flesh has created, and then tell you what he knows about the strange noises coming from the castle.
Gathering more information[]
The priest will tell you many citizens, pets and monsters became mysteriously ill recently after a man in a business suit came around offering free sweets to the townsfolk.
Shortly after the ground will start shaking and the priest will say it came from the island's cave. Worried that the monster within has awoken, he will give you the Broken silver prayer sceptre, an item that allows the player to quickly switch between prayers.
Entering the cave[]
Recommended[]
You do not need to use the prayer sceptre for the fight, but it will negate all damage taken if used correctly.
Setup your quick prayers on the sceptre by wielding it, then left clicking and then right clicking. Select Protect from Melee, Ranged and then Magic to bind them in the 1, 2, and 3 slots. To activate the prayers, wield the sceptre and left click then press the number key that matches the prayer you wish to activate, then left click again to switch back to your regular item hotbar.
Head directly west from the Priest and enter the Experiment cave (451 / 64 / -904) by right clicking the door, continue down the stairs to find the Silver guardian boss.
An onscreen prompt will tell you what combat type the boss is using, with your prayer sceptre you can switch to the protection prayer matching the combat style he is using to negate all incoming damage. The boss will switch combat styles every 8 seconds so be ready to change prayers, as he hits fairly hard.
Once the Silver guardian has been dealt with, return to the priest.
Finishing up[]
The priest will seem shocked that you managed to kill the guardian and tells you to speak with Achtryn.
Return to Achtryn, he doesn't seem too interested in the guardian you killed, but will suggest the "crazy monsters" within the cave need to be investigated next, possibly foreshadowing Pt. 2 of the questline.
