This is guide for skill Slayer from level 1 to 99.
Introduction to Slayer[]
Slayer is a pretty straight forward skill to train. Smack stuff and get experience. You just have to chose your slayer master, talk to him to be assigned a monster, and kill said monster. You can use either Taverly slayer master or the one in Canifis. Taverly is used almost exclusively when training.
Every completed slayer task awards you with slayer point(s). Whenever speaking to a slayer master, you will be given a choice of three tasks with varying difficulty. One point is given for the shortest, three points for the longest, and two points for the one between.
Why Train Slayer?[]
- Slayer allows you to get lucrative drops from monsters you wouldn't otherwise be able to kill. Namely Rune and Dragon equipment. At level 76 you can also get an abyssal whip from abyssal demons which is one of the best weapons in game.
- If you don't have a great sense of what goals you want to achieve, Slayer tasks can give you some guidance. At the very least you will have a specific monster to kill!
- Slayer will force you to train your other skills, such as combat or even cooking, in order to gear up for harder and harder tasks. This will lead your character to being more well rounded, and exploring more of Minescape!
Which Task to Choose[]
Choosing a task will depend on your goals and style of gameplay:
- Do you like killing that monster?
- Does it drop anything good/useful?
- Is it easy to kill? (sometimes you can just 1-2 shot monsters)
- Do you have enough supplies on you to take this task?
Ultimately it all comes to your judgement. Try each task once, ask other players what they think, and see how difficult the task really is.
If you intend to amass slayer points, you should always take the shortest slayer task available to you, and focus on smashing them out.
If you don't care about slayer points, you can take long versions of tasks which you want to farm for specific drops, namely:
- Ankou - rune baxe, mithril ore and rune essence
- Moss Giants - drop enormous bones on basis
- Banshee - iron ore drops and a mithril 2-hander for early game
(Work in progress; this list is incomplete. You can help by adding to it!)
Or just take a short and easy task to get a new roll on the task choice.
